Painting: DAK vehicles - 5cm Pak 38

So had a couple of hours free the other evening and thought I’d start a smaller project that I might be able to get quite far through in one evening! I decided to paint the 5cm PAK 38.

So the unit is in two parts 1. the gun and base and 2. the crew. I decided to try and create a little scene on the base by creating a wall using small stones. The result does become a bit cramped, but I quite liked the result and think as its a relatively small gun it can manage - question does adding hard cover to the base means it always has hard cover? Two of the crew are either separate from the main base or can be removed to essentially allow for causalities.

Once based the everything was under coated desert yellow spray.

The next stage was the metal work around the gun itself- as with the Opel Blitz I applied a small amount of dark grey to a sponge and lightly applied to the edges to give the weathered effect. This was then costed in a watered down strong tone wash. The ‘tyres’ were painted black before wash was applied.

The next stage was the crew. Using the same uniform selection base layers were neatly applied.

This was then followed by a layer of strong tone wash.

A layer of the base coat was then applied over the wash as the first layer of highlighting. At this stage my eyes and the light got to bad so further highlighting will have to be applied at a later date.

Now to find some enemy tanks to engage...
